Boeing outlines Hurricane Ian recovery, relief donation

Global aerospace company Boeing said the firm has committed $2 million to aid Hurricane Ian ground disaster recovery and relief initiatives.

“The destruction left behind in the wake of Hurricane Ian is devastating and heartbreaking,” Boeing president and CEO David Calhoun said. “Our thoughts go out to our colleagues and all those impacted by the storms. Boeing and our teammates stand ready to support the people of Florida, and we are hopeful that this assistance will help with ongoing search and rescue missions as well as bring some relief to those who are suffering.”

Boeing noted the funding allotment includes a $750,000 donation to the Volunteer Florida Foundation, the state’s lead agency for volunteer and national service, directly managing the Florida Disaster Relief fund.

“On behalf of Volunteer Florida, we would like to thank Boeing for their significant financial contribution to the Florida Disaster Fund in response to the statewide recovery efforts from Hurricane Ian,” Volunteer Florida CEO Josie Tamayo said. “Their contribution to the Florida Disaster Fund will help provide essential services in rebuilding our affected communities.”

Additionally, there is a grant of $200,000 earmarked for the American Red Cross included in the $2 million comment to assist evacuation centers statewide.

“Thanks to Boeing’s generous donation, the Red Cross and our partners are on the ground supporting those in need after Hurricane Ian came ashore as a powerful Category 4 storm,” American Red Cross Chief Development Officer Anne McKeough said. “We are grateful for partners like Boeing as we work together to provide help and hope for communities in the wake of this destructive hurricane.”
