Electric vehicle industry highlights need to accelerate critical infrastructure deployment

At the Cybersecurity Executive Forum on Electric Vehicles and Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure this week, government and industry leaders held high-level discussions on the state of vehicular cybersecurity, how to proceed, and, importantly, stressed desires for a quicker rollout of critical infrastructure.

The Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD) hosted the event as part of a larger series of meetings with various sectors to improve strategic awareness and preparedness and bolster critical infrastructure. In this case, government officials were joined by various stakeholders and senior executives in the charging infrastructure, auto manufacturing, and component manufacturing sectors. There, the government pushed the importance of close partnerships between the public and private sectors to guarantee resilience in the electric vehicle ecosystem.

Attendees were able to share their assessment of cybersecurity practices, holes, and recommendations for how they could improve. While the government focused on how resilience could lead to more achievable climate policy goals and on the more than $7.5 billion in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funds earmarked for charging infrastructure alongside tax credits and other investments, all participants agreed on a need to hasten construction and deployment and improve security hand-in-hand.

Further, participants considered how the Build America, Buy America Act could improve the supply chain security of components on which affiliated companies rely.
