CBP details illegal border crossing apprehensions

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) authorities detailed the recent apprehension efforts of San Diego Sector Imperial Beach Station agents, resulting in encountering 290 illegal border crossing individuals.

The individuals were from more than 30 countries and encountered in less than 13 hours.

Agents came in contact with the initial group of 90 individuals at approximately 7 p.m. on Friday, March 24, with the individuals found to be illegally entering the United States in an area known as Goat Canyon, about four miles west of the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

Amid agents securing the first group, according to CBP, another group of 56 individuals crossed through an area known as South Levee, approximately one mile west of the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

Large groups continued to enter as the night progressed along the Imperial Beach Station area of responsibility – resulting in a third group of 114 individuals being apprehended near South Levee.

While the group of 114 was being secured by CBP personnel, 30 additional individuals illegally crossed through Goat Canyon.

Individuals apprehended were from countries including Afghanistan, Belize, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, Ghana, India, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Pakistan, Romania, Sierra Leone, Turkey, Vietnam, and Yemen.
