The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has designated Smiths Detection’s HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX CT passenger screening system as terrorism deterring technology.
The designation was established through the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act.
“This is a significant milestone for Smiths Detection and the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX, and speaks to the caliber of our technology, the people behind it and our mission to make the world a safer place,” Smiths Detection President Inder Reddy said.
“This is already one of the most widely deployed CT passenger checkpoints in the world, and with this designation we can give further confidence to our customers in the USA and around the globe on the quality of this equipment.”
Under the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX is described as technology aimed at preventing, detecting, identifying, or deterring acts of terrorism, or limiting the harm that such acts might otherwise cause.
The technology uses computed tomography imaging and advanced digital technology to produce 3D X-rays of the contents of a cabin baggage, enabling electronics and liquids to remain in bags while enhancing the overall passenger experience.
Images produced with computed tomography scanning technology can be enhanced with Smiths Detection’s recognition algorithm software iCMORE to aid in identifying concealed threats or contraband, according to the threat detection and screening technology firm.
