Defense Department to host Climate Resilience Workshop

Department of Defense (DOD) officials have outlined the 2023 DOD Climate Resilience Workshop slated for July 10-13 in St. Louis, Mo.

The effort is in conjunction with the DOD’s Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations, and Environment, providing a forum for DOD stakeholders and partners to explore the varied facets of climate change.

Climate change is considered a national security threat possessing tangible impacts to military readiness.

“As climate change events create new mission challenges, the Department must work across all levels of government and with trusted partners to preserve the resilience, reliability, and sustainability of our critical infrastructure and built environment,” Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations, and Environment Brendan Owens said. “The DOD Climate Resilience Workshop is an opportunity to bring together an interdisciplinary group of professionals from local, state, federal, and non-governmental organizations to discuss data, tools, and resources for enhancing the Department’s climate resilience at our installations.”

The sessions will provide attendees with the opportunity to learn about several lines of effort in DOD’s Climate Adaptation Plan, according to the DOD, including supporting climate-informed decision-making; creating resilient built and natural infrastructure; and enhancing adaptation and resilience through collaboration.

Registration for the 2023 DOD Climate Resilience Workshop is free and open to DOD personnel, its partners and stakeholders, the DOD noted.
