RTX grows networking capabilities and Joint All Domain Command Control in Northern Edge exercise

At a test conducted at the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska last month, RTX showed off advanced Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) capabilities, displaying multi-level security networking.

“We’re working across our company to mature and demonstrate comprehensive capabilities at exercises like Northern Edge that will underpin JADC2 operations in highly contested environments,” Elaine Bitonti, vice president of Connected Battlespace & Emerging Capabilities for Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, said.

It marked the first of two tests to be conducted as part of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command’s Northern Edge 2023 exercise. Therein, RTX demonstrated a suite of technologies including intelligent sensing, durable networking, battle management command and control portfolios, all with support for rapid data connectivity and synchronization across joint forces and partners, reducing decision-making time between military commanders and operators.

Put another way, coalition partners and the U.S military were able to access and exchange each other’s respective data, allowing coordination improvements in real time. According to the company, it also showcased directional communications for disadvantaged platforms, showing how assets within danger zones could receive updated tasking and provide actionable information back to command.

“The company’s effort to test and mature these technologies together in DoD pathfinder programs aim to provide a full capability offering that enable contested and distributed operations relevant to the current threat environment,” Conn Doherty, vice president of strategic campaigns at Raytheon, said. “Integrating our solutions and government cross-service investments has enabled more interoperability quickly and in a cost-effective manner.”

More than 60 RTX employees worked with the U.S. military and coalition partners during the test. A follow-up test will be conducted later this month.

Notably, this month also marked completion of RTX’s restructuring into three business units: Collins Aerospace, Raytheon and Pratt & Whitney.
