Smiths Detection outlines Swiss DOD chemical detector contract

Threat detection and security screening company Smiths Detection is slated to manufacture and deliver up to 1,050 Lightweight Chemical Detectors (LCD) to the Swiss Federal Department of Defense (DOD).

The action would aid in replacing the existing fleet of personal chemical detectors.

“We’re delighted to have been once again selected by the Swiss Federal Department of Defence to supply them with personal chemical detectors,” Defense Market Director Michael Lea, said. “We have a longstanding relationship with the armasuisse and look forward to continuing to help them meet their safety goals and our shared mission of making the world a safer place.”

Smiths Detection noted LCD is a reliable person-worn Toxic Industrial Chemical (TIC) and chemical-warfare agent (CWA) identifier and detector. It serves as the most widely deployed personal chemical detector used by CBRNe and HAZMAT operators globally.

The detector provides a lifesaving warning to personnel who deploy into high threat environments and warning of toxic threats to the civilian population, according to Smiths Detection.
