Lockheed Martin, a defense technology company, and BAE Systems, a defense, security, and aerospace company, recently announced a strategic partnership to develop a range of uncrewed autonomous air systems.
Under the partnership, the companies’ advanced research and development divisions, Lockheed Martin Skunk Works and BAE Systems’ FalconWorks, will work on a modular design that can be deployed rapidly and deliver a range of effects, including disruptive capabilities.
“We’re pleased to join forces with BAE Systems, combining our expertise in rapid prototyping and advanced development to deliver game-changing capabilities,” OJ Sanchez, Lockheed Martin Skunk Works vice president and general manager, said. “By working together, we’re unlocking new possibilities for our customers and advancing the future of autonomous systems.”
The partners will produce a cost-effective and easily deployable prototype that will focus on electronic warfare and attack capability. It will be designed to adapt to different missions and offer multiple launch options.
“Through our collaboration with Lockheed Martin we’ll deliver disruptive capabilities that can make a real difference to our military customers at pace, enabling them to confront the operational requirements of today’s battlefield,” Dave Holmes, BAE Systems’ FalconWorks division managing director, said.
The announcement was made at the DSEI global defense conference in the United Kingdom.
