The U.S. Space Force announced it would be sending participants to the 45th Cobra Gold for the first time.

According to the U.S. Department of War, Cobra Gold is a joint military exercise led by the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and the Royal Thai Armed Forces. The exercise is designed to strengthen regional security cooperation, humanitarian assistance and disaster response in the Indo-Pacific region. Held in Thailand, it is the largest annual multinational military exercise in mainland Asia, bringing together 30 participating nations for field training, amphibious drills and humanitarian projects. The inclusion of Space Force marks a key milestone, officials with the DoW said, and signifies the military branch as a warfighting domain.

“This marks a significant milestone for the United States Space Force,” Space Force Maj. Jonathan Brydie, a military exchange program embed assigned to the Joint Force Space Component, Headquarters Joint Operations Command, said. “As our service continues to mature, our participation demonstrates that we can support real-world operations and major multinational exercises simultaneously. It reinforces that space is a warfighting domain. Integrating space from the outset ensures the joint force operates with synchronized effects across air, land, maritime, cyber and space.”

The exercise takes place through March 6. The presence of Space Force guardians signals an evolution of the military branch, officials said, and reinforces the U.S.-Thai alliance by enhancing multinational crisis response, mission effectiveness and capability across all domains.

“Integrating space into Cobra Gold enhances the exercise by educating Indo-Pacific partners on the operational role of the space domain during conflict,” Space Force Capt. Nicholas Braga, Space Forces Korea chief of future operations, said. “It also opens dialogue on how nations can responsibly develop and integrate space capabilities that contribute to regional stability.”
