World Economic Forum’s cybercrime project receives INTERPOL support

The World Economic Forum (WEF) announced at its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, this week that its set of recommendations to encourage greater public-private partnership in combating cybercrime has gained the support of INTERPOL.

The project was unveiled with joint-backing from WEF’s Head of Public Security Policy and Security Affairs Jean-Luc Vez, INTERPOL Secretary General Jürgen Stock, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and Chairman and CEO of Kaspersky Lab Eugene Kaspersky.

“Policing, especially in cyberspace, is no longer the exclusive preserve of law enforcement,” Secretary General Stock said. “The private sector, academia, and citizens themselves all need to be involved. The Internet of things presents unprecedented opportunities for criminals, and for effective law enforcement getting perpetrators behind bars should be an integral part of any strategy. Combating cybercrime requires a unified approach, not just in developing partnerships but in ensuring that police around the world are provided with the basic equipment and training they need.”

INTERPOL’s Global Complex for Innovation will work alongside police, specialists from cybersecurity and academia to provide expertise for cyber threat intelligence, malware analysis, mobile forensics, visualization of cyber threats and attack attribution.
