Customs seizes 103 pounds of methamphetamine at Brownsville border

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on Wednesday that officers assigned to the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge seized a load of alleged methamphetamine hidden within a vehicle attempting to pass customs.

“I congratulate our CBP officers for their diligence and dedication which led to the seizure of these narcotics,” Port Director Petra Horne, who operates the Brownsville Port of Entry in Brownsville, Texas, said.

The seizure originally took place on March 7. Utilizing state of the art non-intrusive technology, CBP officers were able to discover 23 packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing 103 pounds hidden within the vehicle, which was a 2012 Nissan Juke. The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is approximately $1,440,133.

After the narcotics were seized, CBP officers arrested the driver, who was promptly turned over to special agents at the office of Homeland Security Investigations to further the ongoing investigation opened up by the seizure.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is a unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security tasked with protecting and operating the United States of America’s borders. CBP’s primary concern is the prevention of terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the country.
