CBP officers seize nearly $1 million in narcotics at international bridge

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations (CFB OFO) at the Rio Grande City Port of Entry announced on Monday that it had arrested a man from Sullivan City, Texas, after finding $865,000 worth of methamphetamine and heroin concealed in the car he was driving.

The incident occurred on March 30 when officer encountered the alleged trafficker driving a 2012 Chevy Cruze arriving from Mexico. When the car was flagged for further inspection, officers discovered 11 packages of methamphetamine weighing approximately 26 pounds. An additional six packages of heroin, weighing approximately 12 pounds, were also found hidden in the sedan.

“I commend our officers for their outstanding commitment to the CBP mission in helping keep dangerous drugs from entering our country and filtering into our communities,” David J. Gonzalez, port director at the Rio Grande City Port of Entry, said. “We want to emphasize that CBP Field Operations is always vigilant, and maintains that steadfast vigilance at all border crossings throughout this nation.”

CFB OFO arrested the man and seized the vehicle he was driving. The man was released to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents for further investigation.
