CBP agents seize $7.8 million in narcotics

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized an estimated $7.8 million in narcotics in four separate incidents at the Laredo Port of Entry.

Two seizures occurred last Tuesday when agents seized 74 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside a 2006 Nissan Altima driven by a 36-year-old female Mexican citizen. The second seizure came when officers discovered approximately 118 pounds of liquid methamphetamine concealed inside a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup driven by a 38-year-old male Mexican citizen. Both of the seizures were worth an approximately combined $3.8 million in street value.

A third incident occurred a day prior when agents flagged a 1994 Ford Bronco for further inspection. After a short investigation, agents uncovered six packages of crystal methamphetamine weighing approximately 143 pounds worth approximately $2.8 million on the street.

A fourth incident occurred on the same day when agents at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge referred a 2013 Dodge Attitude driven by a 36-year-old male Mexican citizen for further inspection. Using a non-intrusive imaging system, CBP agents seized approximately 42 pounds of heroin and approximately 20 pounds of cocaine.

CBP officers seized each vehicle and suspects were handed over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.

“These multiple seizures totaling nearly $8 million in hard narcotics truly exemplify our CBP officers’ hard work, experience and dedication to the CBP mission,” Port Director Gregory Alvarez said.
