McCaul urges Senate to take action on TSA bills

House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) on Tuesday urged the United States Senate to take action on two bipartisan bills aimed at reducing wait times at the nation’s airports.

The TSA PreCheck Expansion Act, H.R. 2343, was introduced by U.S. Rep. John Katko (R-NY) and passed the House by a voice vote. The Transportation Security Administration Reform and Improvement Act of 2015, H.R. 3584, was also introduced by Katko and approved by a voice vote.

“The safety of Americans traveling by air is of utmost importance, but today’s lengthy security lines and endless travel delays are completely unacceptable,” McCaul said. “This is not our first rodeo when it comes to high travel seasons. We should have been better prepared. The House has already taken action by passing bills that address the situation and shorten the lines while not compromising security. But, sadly, those bills are stalled in the Senate. The Senate has an obligation to act now on the House-passed bills that will make travel during the peak summer season more efficient.”

McCaul said that his committee intends to introduce a bill later this week with input from various stakeholders that will further address the situation.
