Border Patrol’s Campaign Eastern Front reports strong month for activity

Campaign Eastern Front, the enforcement operation of the U.S. Border Patrol, San Diego, on Thursday reported on a strong month of affecting criminal smuggling organizations operating in East County.

The period from June 12 to July 9 saw agents arrest 244 individuals suspected of illegally entering the country along the southeastern-most parts of San Diego County. Additionally, agents arrested 28 individuals suspected of participating in human smuggling, along with two individuals who were found to have outstanding felony warrants and were later turned over to other law enforcement agencies.

Narcotics seized included approximately 16.1 kilograms of alleged crystal methamphetamine and 1.16 kilograms of alleged cocaine. The seizures carried an approximate street value of $171,840.

“We will maintain this intensive enforcement strategy to further secure the border in East County, while ensuring that consequences are brought to those engaged in cross-border smuggling activity,” Richard Barlow, chief patrol agent of the San Diego Sector, said.

Barlow added that Campaign Eastern Front would continue indefinitely.
