CBP officers arrest two wanted fugitives at Charlotte airport

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) agents stationed at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport recently arrested two wanted fugitives.

CBP officers arrested Shawnette Jones of Waldorf, Maryland, on charges of second-degree child abuse and second degree assault. Jones arrived at the Charlotte airport on a flight originating in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

CBP officers also arrested Joe Cason Story Simmons of Nashville, Tennessee, on charges of jumping bail. Simmons arrived on a flight from Cancun, Mexico.

Both individuals were turned over to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.

“While Customs and Border Protection’s primary mission is anti-terrorism, our officers are committed to working with state and local law enforcement agencies in an effort to apprehend wanted fugitives,” Patty Fitzpatrick, area port director in Charlotte, said. “While Customs and Border Protection’s primary mission is anti-terrorism, our officers are committed to working with state and local law enforcement agencies in an effort to apprehend wanted fugitives,”

Officers were able to apprehend both individuals by examining passenger manifests on arriving international flights before the flights landed. CBP works in coordination with the wanting jurisdiction to verify that the warrant and extradition order remain active. CBP officers then work with local law enforcement to initiate extradition to the involved jurisdiction.
