CBP agents apprehend two individuals for illegal re-entry

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently apprehended two previously-deported individuals for re-entering the United States.

The first individual, a Chilean citizen named Victor Manuel Fuentes-Gomez, was arrested in January for illegally re-entering the United States after previously being deported on two separate occasions – once in 1975 and another in 2015. Fuentes-Gomez was sentenced on Monday to 30 months in prison for the repeat violation.

“Customs and Border Protection is pleased with the conviction and sentencing of Mr. Fuentes-Gomez, and we are hopeful that this sentence sends a strong message to others that they face severe consequences for violating U.S. immigration law,” John C. Pfeifer, chief patrol agent for the Swanton Sector Border Patrol, said. “We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners and the U.S. Attorney’s office to arrest and to hold accountable previously deported criminal aliens who disrespect our nation’s laws.”

A second individual, an unnamed Mexican national, was recently arrested by Border Patrol agents assigned to the Douglas Station for felony and misdemeanor charges out of Raleigh, N.C. The individual was previously arrested by the Raleigh Police Department and charged with starting a fire, resisting a public officer, and assault on a female and a child under the age of 12. The individual was ordered to be removed from the country in 2015 and now faces charges for illegal re-entry.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry.
