CBP agents seize 1,300 pounds of marijuana during six incidents

Del Rio Sector U.S. Border Patrol agents recently seized approximately 1,300 pounds of narcotics during the course of six different incidents.

The first incident occurred on Aug. 26 when Eagle Pass South Station agents responded to reports of suspicious activity near the area. After a brief search, the agents discovered several abandoned bundles of marijuana weighing approximately 209 pounds.

A day later, an Eagle Pass Station Border Patrol agent conducting line watch duty at a local ranch encountered tracks that led away from the Rio Grande river. The agent followed the tracks, leading him to the discovery of abandoned military-style duffel bags containing approximately 18 pounds worth of marijuana. The marijuana carried an approximate street value of $15,000.

On Aug. 29, agents from the Uvalde Station came upon a scene of a bail out that the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office had the night before. Sheriff’s deputies were able to seize several military-style duffel bags filled with marijuana. After surveying the scene the following day, Border Patrol agents discovered foot tracks that led them to three additional large duffel bags containing approximately 214 pounds of marijuana. No suspects from the incident have been apprehended at this time.

Three days later, agents from the Eagle Pass Border Patrol Station discovered three abandoned bundles of marijuana after observing four individuals running toward the Rio Grande river. The bags contained approximately 192 pounds of marijuana carrying an approximate street value of $154,000.

The final incident occurred on Sept. 21, when agents from the Eagle Pass Station observed several individuals walking through a local ranch. As agents approached the area, they discovered six large military-style duffel bags containing approximately 387 pounds of marijuana with an approximate street value of $309,000.

All of the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
