Raytheon awarded more than $600 mln to upgrade Patriot Integrated Air and Missile Defense System

An undisclosed party of the 13-nation ownership group which operates the Patriot Integrated Air and Missile Defense System recently awarded Raytheon Company a direct commercial sales contract worth more than $600 million to bring its system configuration up to date.

The contract was awarded on Dec. 28 and will upgrade the customer’s Patriot system to Configuration 3+ with the Post-Deployment Build 8 software and hardware suite. This upgrade will enable Patriot to use the PAC-3 MSE interceptor missile and destroy tactical ballistic missiles.

The contract was awarded shortly after the United States government received a request regarding Patriot from Poland. Since that request was officially received, the undisclosed  customer awarded Raytheon a $225 million contract for additional capacity. Additionally, the Netherlands awarded Raytheon a contract to begin modernizing its own Patriot systems.

“Patriot saves lives,” said Ralph Acaba, Raytheon vice president of Integrated Air and Missile Defense. “Our customer faces a very real, evolving threat; by upgrading Patriot, they will continue to protect their civilians, military and critical infrastructure.”

Since Dec. 2014, the 13 Patriot partners have invested approximately $7.8 billion in procuring and upgrading the system.

Raytheon Company is a technology and innovation leader which specializes in defense, civil government and cybersecurity solutions.
