Border Patrol Agents rescue undocumented migrants in freezing weather conditions

El Paso Border Sector Patrol Agents assigned to the Forward Operating Base Bounds in Lordsburg, New Mexico rescued a group of undocumented migrants last week after they were abandoned during freezing weather conditions.

The migrants, consisting of six adults and twelve children, told the officers they were in the country illegally. Three individuals in the group were identified as U.S. citizens. As they were questioned, officers learned the group had been abandoned by smugglers acting as their guides in the desert and had been advised to find authorities to help them.

The officers transported the group to the forward operating base and made arrangements for their transportation to the Lordsburg Border Patrol Station for medical examination. A Border Patrol Emergency Medical Technician determined that no medical assistance was needed. The undocumented migrants have been processed and placed in immigration proceedings.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry.
