CBP posts two requests for border wall prototype proposals

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently released two requests for proposals (RFPs) to award multiple contracts, along with initial task orders, for the design and construction of wall prototypes to be used in President Trump’s proposed border wall with Mexico.

The President’s Executive Order, titled Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements, said that the Secretary of Homeland Security should take immediate steps to plan, design, and construct a physical wall along the southern U.S. border, while using appropriate materials and technology to most effectively achieve complete operational control of the southern border.

CBP said the RFPs are intended for the acquisition of multiple conceptual wall designs for the construction of multiple wall prototypes. The agency will then partner with industry stakeholders to identify the best means to construct the wall prior to making a full investment in it.

The agency also said the prototypes will inform future decision making and will likely evolve to meet the U.S. Border Patrol’s specification requirements. CBP may identify new designs that will expand the current border barrier toolkit that the agency will use to construct the wall itself.

RFPs are currently posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry.
