California CBP officers arrest 28 fugitives over seven-day period

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents working at various points of entry in California apprehended 28 individuals with outstanding felony warrants over the last week, two of which were wanted for homicide.

The fugitives were wanted on a litany of charges, ranging from larceny and alien smuggling to narcotics trafficking, assault, and homicide.

Included in the arrests was an April 11 incident that saw officers stationed at the San Ysidro Port of Entry arrest Frank Perez, a 20-year old U.S. citizen, after he was turned over by Mexican law enforcement authorities. With the use of the biometric Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS), CBP officers discovered Perez was wanted in Los Angeles County on an outstanding felony warrant for homicide. Perez was subsequently turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for processing.

Another fugitive wanted for homicide, Manny Daniel Aguirre, was arrested on April 13 as he passed through the same port of entry through the pedestrian entrance. The officers determined Aguirre was also wanted on a parole violation.

“CBP officers engage with thousands of travelers on a daily basis and are the first line of defense for our Nation,” CBP Director of Field Operations in San Diego Pete Flores said. “Apprehensions like these showcase the necessity and vigilance of our officers on the front line.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry.
