Eagle Pass CBP officers stop attempted narcotics smuggling

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents stationed at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry recently arrested a 26-year old woman from Eagle Pass, Texas for narcotics smuggling.

The incident occurred on April 12 as the woman attempted to enter the United States though the pedestrian lane of the Eagle Pass International Bridge in Texas. During inspection, the officers were tipped off to, and subsequently recovered, a package of black tar heroin that was internally concealed within the woman’s body.

The package weighed 0.61 pounds and was street-valued at approximately $16,500. The officers seized the narcotics and turned the woman over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for processing and investigation.

“This interception of dangerous narcotics truly exemplifies the detailed, thorough work of our officers at our port,” John Brandt, director of the Eagle Pass Port of Entry, said. “Our officers work vigorously every day to protect our country and keep our streets safe.”

CBP’s Office of Field Operations (OFO) is tasked with conducting anti-terrorism operations at the nation’s ports. As part of its mission, OFO screens all people, vehicles and goods entering the port while helping to facilitate legitimate trade and travel. OFO agents also search for narcotics, enforce immigration laws, and ensure that all goods entering the United States are pest and disease free.
