Border Patrol agents arrest previously-deported felon near Calexico West Port of Entry

U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended a previously-deported felon on Thursday near the Calexico West Port of Entry.

The incident began as agents observed an individual running north from the International Border fence at approximately 10 P.M. Agents stopped the man and discovered that he had entered the country illegally. The individual was then arrested and transported to the Calexico Station for further processing.

The individual, a 33-year-old Mexican citizen, was previously convicted of voluntary manslaughter and weapons-related charges. He was sentenced to nine years in prison and later deported from the country in 2012. The individual now faces charges of illegal re-entry after removal as a convicted felon.

“While carrying out our duties as Border Patrol agents, we sometimes encounter dangerous individuals with prior criminal histories attempting to enter the country illegally,” Miguel Garcia, acting special operations supervisor for Calexico, said. “This arrest shows how we strive to ensure the safety and well-being of our community while also enforcing immigration laws.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry.
