Director of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and U.S. Strategic Command Center for Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction (SCCWMD) and U.S. Strategic Command Standing Joint Force Headquarters for Elimination (SJFHQ-E) Ken Myers III granted his responsibilities to U.S. Air Force Major General John P. Horner during a formal Change of Responsibility ceremony on Friday.
The ceremony was co-hosted by the honorable Frank Kendall, undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, and Admiral Cecil D. Haney, commander of U.S. Strategic Command, and was held before an audience of more than 300 service members and Department of Defense civilians. It was also webcast to DTRA/SCC-WMD’s sites around the world.
“DTRA is performing exceptionally well; this is a fantastic organization,” Kendall said. “It has done great things for our country and it is instrumental in preventing some of the worst disasters one could imagine.”
Myers has served as the organization’s fourth director and is the longest serving director in its history.
“I’d like to personally thank Director Myers for his leadership and vision,” Horner said. “We are well prepared to address the critical WMD threat that face our country and that of our allies.”
Horner has previously served as deputy foreign policy advisor at U.S. European Command.
