U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers stationed at the Del Rio International Bridge recently discovered more than $1 million worth of suspected narcotics concealed within a vehicle coming from Mexico.
CBP officers encountered a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck on Aug. 27 as it arrived from Mexico to the United States. After a brief inspection, CBP officers discovered packages hidden inside the bed of the truck. The officers seized approximately 71 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, worth approximately $1,430,344 on the street. The vehicle was also seized by agents.
The driver, a 37-year-old man from Cuidad Acuña, Mexico, was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for further processing.
“The dedication of our frontline CBP officers kept this load of dangerous narcotics from entering our country,” Alberto D. Perez, director of the Del Rio Port of Entry, said. “This seizure is a fine example of the training and experience these officers employ to keep our communities safe.”
The Del Rio Port of Entry is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat international criminal organizations.
