U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers assigned to the port of entries in San Diego and Imperial Valley counties in California recently intercepted more than 700 pounds of narcotics and apprehended 13 fugitives with outstanding felony warrants over the past weekend.
In total, officers from the two ports of entry seized 347 pounds of marijuana, 208 pounds of methamphetamine, 149 pounds of cocaine, and 23 pounds of heroin over a period lasting from April 28-30. CBP said its officers discovered the illicit narcotics hidden in various places, including vehicle roofs, floors, spare tires, and trunks.
“CBP officers combat drug trafficking and encounter fugitives on a daily basis, this weekend is a snapshot,” CBP San Diego Field Director Pete Flores said. “Drugs sold in the U.S. fuels more violence and this weekend we kept $3 million dollars out of the hands of the drug trafficking organizations.”
Officers also apprehended 13 fugitives from justice who were originally arrested on various charges including larceny, assault, burglary, and stealing vehicles.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry.
