Custom and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Arizona’s Port of Nogales seized heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine valued at more than $2 million in three separate incidents on Saturday.
The incidents led to the arrests of three U.S. citizens and one Mexican national. Their cases were referred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
The first incident occurred when a 49-year-old man from Amado, Arizona, was referred for secondary inspection at the Dennis DeConcini border crossing. After a narcotics-detection canine alerted, CBP officers allegedly discovered 28 pounds of heroin, 34 pounds of meth and nearly four pounds of cocaine hidden under the rear seats of the man’s Nissan sedan.
The second incident occurred when a car driven by a 25-year-old Phoenix man was referred for secondary inspection. After a canine altered, CBP officers allegedly found more than 47 pounds of meth hidden in the floorboards of the man’s Nissan sedan. The man and a passenger in his vehicle, a 25-year-old Mexican national, were both detained.
The third incident at the DeConcini crossing occurred on Saturday night. After a Chevrolet truck driven by a 19-year-old Tucson man was referred for secondary inspection, officers allegedly discovered cocaine valued at nearly $150,000 and heroin valued at nearly $1.3 million hidden inside.
All four subjects were detained, and the drugs and vehicles were seized.
