The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program will embark on a national tour this month to educate small businesses about funding opportunities through SBIR and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.
Sponsored by the Small Business Administration (SBA), the “National Road Tour” will visit Rochester, NY, on June 18; Pittsburgh, Pa., on June 19; Columbus, Ohio, on June 20; Huntington, W. Va., on June 21; and Durham, NC, on June 22.
“The SBIR road tour continues to be a great way to discuss opportunities for innovative small businesses to engage on technology needs for the Homeland Security mission,” said William Bryan, the senior official performing the duties of under secretary for science and technology at DHS. “By participating in this road tour and engaging with small businesses we facilitate the development of new technologies for the homeland security enterprise and support small business as a driving force for the U.S. economy.”
The tour will enable representatives of small businesses operating in the innovation and research and development domains to meet learn about funding opportunities and current homeland security challenges from DHS SBIR program officials. Since 2004, SBIR has leveraged competitive contract awards to bolster small business engagement in federal research and development initiatives.
