Barnard Construction Company has received a $172 million Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Army Corps of Engineers base contract to build 14 miles of Arizona Primary Pedestrian Replacement Wall.
The total contract value, which includes up to 32 miles and options, is $324 million, with work expected to begin in April 2019. The scope of the project is targeted to fall under the purview of the Border Patrol’s Yuma and Tucson sectors.
The project involves the construction and installation of upgraded tactical infrastructure, including five miles in Lukeville, Arizona, and 27 miles in Yuma, Arizona. According to officials, the project is vital to efforts to bolster the Yuma and Tucson Border Patrol sectors’ areas of responsibility.
The initiative is implemented under President Trump’s Executive Order 13767, also known as Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements. It continues to take steps to expeditiously plan, design and construct a physical wall using appropriate materials and technology to most effectively achieve operational control of the southern border.
The primary pedestrian replacement wall in Arizona will improve each sector’s ability to impede and deny illegal border crossings and the drug and human smuggling activities of transnational criminal organizations. The project was funded with CBP’s Fiscal Year 2018 appropriations.
