Smiths Detection has secured a contract with the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction office (CWMD) to provide radiation portal monitors (RPM).
Officials said the indefinite-delivery-indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) agreement has a $291 million ceiling, allowing for multiple orders of products and services under a single contract while providing flexibility for the customer in follow-on order decisions.

An RPM can detect potentially dangerous radiation emitting material which passes through its detection zone, officials said, adding the portal is capable of scanning trucks, vehicles, containers, packages, and people.
Smiths Detection partnered with Radiation Solutions, Inc. (RSI) and Silverside Detectors Inc. to utilize gamma and neutron detection technology respectively.
