The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) awarded a $6.98 million contract to Teel Plastics to expand the production of injection-molded and extruded swabsticks used in COVID-19 testing kits.
This award will increase production by an additional 50 million per month for each swabstick type by March 2021. Based in Baraboo, Wisc., Teel Plastics is planning to add over 30 employees to meet this increase in production rate.
This effort has been led by the DOD’s Defense Assisted Acquisition (DA2) Cell, in coordination with the Department of the Air Force’s Acquisition COVID-19 Task Force (DAF ACT).
It is contracted by a Department of Air Force Acquisition Organization and funded through the Health Care Enhancement Act (HCEA).
The firm-fixed contract was made in coordination with the Department of Health and Human Services.
Teel Plastics has been a producer of medical plastic products for over forty years. The company moved into its new 150,000 square foot manufacturing facility and corporate headquarters in Baraboo, Wisc., in 2007. The space accommodates the company’s expanding extrusion and injection molding divisions. The environmentally conscious facility is built around a hub and spokes concept, putting operations and administration managers in direct contact with plant personnel at all times.
