BAE Systems has secured an Army contract worth up to $600 million for sustainment and support for the U.S. Army’s Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) over the next five years.
“The AMPV family of vehicles will bring unmatched capability to the battlefield and has demonstrated outstanding survivability and force protection as well as flexibility and growth for the future,” Bill Sheehy, the AMPV program director at BAE Systems, said. “This contract award will not only support production, but it will also allow for future upgrades through the development and integration of new capability sets onto existing variants.”
Officials indicated BAE Systems is presently in low-rate production for the AMPV program, delivering at least one of the five designed AMPV variants. The agreement adds new AMPV capabilities and technologies throughout the time in service.
The AMPV variants include the Medical Treatment AMPV, the Mission Command variant, the General Purpose vehicle, the Mortar Carrier, and the Medical Evacuation vehicle.
The Army noted the AMPV adapts evolving technologies for the future battlefield via a growth space design, which can bolster power generation capability while enabling electronic and network connectivity upgrades.
This sustainment contract allows for adding new capabilities and technologies to AMPVs throughout their time in service.
BAE is slated to execute the AMPV program scope of work across the company’s industrial network at facilities located in Aiken, S.C., Anniston, Ala., Phoenix, Ariz., Sterling Heights, Mich., and York, Pa.
