Navy officials said the service branch has awarded a $483 million contract with options to Raytheon Missiles & Defense to complete Zumwalt-class destroyers activation and fleet introduction.
If exercised, the agreement will total $1.68 billion across five years while continuing to develop technology and warfare capabilities for three Zumwalt destroyers.
“This contract underscores our role as a systems integrator, which goes beyond offering customers weapons and radars,” Raytheon Missiles & Defense President Wes Kremer said. “Our team provides Zumwalt destroyers extensive support, from engineering and cyber protection to software development and upgrades.”
Raytheon officials said the company provides global advanced systems and services for commercial, military, and government customers.
The scope of work is also slated to include design, integration, test and evaluation, system upgrade and replacement, logistics product development, configuration management, and training systems. Zumwalt-class destroyers recently achieved initial operational capability in December 2021.
Through Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, Raytheon Intelligence & Space, and Raytheon Missiles & Defense, the company delivers solutions enabling entities to push avionics, cybersecurity, directed energy, electric propulsion, hypersonics, and quantum physics boundaries.
Zumwalt-class destroyers achieved initial operational capability in December 2021. The inaugural fleet employment of USS Zumwalt is slated for later this year.
