Republicans in the House Committee on Homeland Security advanced its budget reconciliation recommendations to fund President Donald Trump’s border security efforts.

The budget recommendation will complete the border wall and increase U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel while enhancing technology and upgrading CBP facilities, U.S. Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), chair of the committee, said.

“After hours of Democrat objections to commonsense border security funding, Homeland Security Committee Republicans held the line to advance budget recommendations that provide Customs and Border Protection with the resources needed to continue President Trump’s success in securing our border for years to come,” Green said. “Homeland Republicans proudly advanced funding to give Border Patrol agents the tools they have long requested to accomplish their homeland security mission in the field while protecting our communities.”

The budget recommendation included $46.5 billion to complete the border wall including the completion of 701 miles of primary wall, construction of 900 miles of river barriers, 629 miles of secondary barriers, and replacement of 141 miles of vehicle and pedestrian barriers; $5 billion for CBP facilities; $4.1 billion for more CBP personnel; and $3.8 billion for inspection and surveillance technology.

U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), vice chair of the committee, said the budget recommendation will provide funding for years to come.

“President Trump promised the American people he would put a stop to the Biden administration’s border crisis and secure our homeland — and 100 days into his term, he has absolutely delivered,” McCaul said. “For years, I’ve fought to protect Texans from the financial burdens and safety threats posed by an open border, and I am grateful President Trump wasted no time in re-establishing a strong deterrence policy and deporting the violent criminals whom the Biden administration welcomed into our communities.”
