Alion scores $15 million contract to support Air Force Spectrum Management

Alion Science and Technology announced last week that the Air Force Spectrum Management Office (AFSMO) has awarded it a $15 million contract over five years to address radio frequency bandwidth for Air Force operations.

The AFSMO cited potentially dangerous radio interference and adequate spectrum access as the reason for the monetary grant. Under the contract, Alion would assist the AFSMO in providing spectrum management, strategic planning, policy recommendations, satellite coordination and spectrum reallocation. Additionally, Alion would conduct research and technical analysis for the possibility of sharing the spectrum with commercial wireless providers.

“Access to wireless frequencies is essential for national security as well as for commercial uses. Our extensive experience and expertise in broadband communication will provide the Air Force with a comprehensive approach to securing spectrum for critical operations and training,” Alion Senior Vice President and Manager of the Technology Solutions Group Chris Amos said. “Alion will support AFSMO’s mission while enabling the commercial use of additional bandwidth, ensuring that all authorized users have the access they need while preventing interference.”

The contract was awarded under the Defense Systems Technical Area Task Multiple Award Contract.
