ACE system reaches new milestone, checking 75 percent of all cargo imports

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported a new milestone on Thursday for the automated commercial environment (ACE) system, with more than 75 percent of all cargo imported into the United States now being processed by the system.

The system is also now successfully processing 97 percent of entry summary documentation, which assists the government in assessing duties, collecting statistics and ensuring U.S. trade compliance.

“We are very encouraged by the recent growth in ACE filings, particularly with the major increases we have seen in ACE cargo release filing in recent weeks,” CBP Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske said. “The entire leadership team here at CBP continues to work closely with the customs brokers, importers, and others in the trade community to drive this successful transition to ACE and the creation of the U.S. Government’s Single Window to meet the President’s year-end goal.”

ACE is the “single window” through which businesses electronically transmit required information to the government. This gives trade stakeholders quicker access to shipment data, while assisting the flow of legitimate trade.

The next milestone ACE hopes to hit is May 28, when filers will be required to file in ACE electronic entries for the most commonly filed entry types, as well as foreign trade zone entries and entry summaries.
