Honeywell releases plans for AreaRAE Pro for emergency first responder use

Honeywell released plans on Thursday for a next-generation wireless, transportable GPS-enabled multi-threat monitor called the AreaRAE Pro.

The AreaRAE Pro collects information based on meteorological conditions and simultaneously detects a wide-range of threats, including toxic and combustible gasses, volatile organic compounds, and radiation.

The system utilizes state-of-the-art wireless technology to disseminate threats in real time at a range of up to two miles from the host receiver. The information is then relayed to first responders across the enterprise to provide increased situational awareness in hazardous conditions. AreaRAE Pro has seven interchangeable sensors that can be switched out as needed for detection.

“The legacy AreaRAE notably served the HAZmat and emergency response community for almost 15 years as a multi-threat detector, but now the platform has been redesigned and upgraded through Honeywell technology and its considerable engineering resources,” Thomas Negre, senior marketing director of portable solutions for Honeywell, said. “The result is more information being gathered by a single device and making that information easily accessible to local and remote decision makers. For first responders, understanding what the threats are, where they are and how they are moving is critical to determine an appropriate response plan. AreaRAE Pro’s detection capabilities give incident commanders more critical information, so that they can keep their teams and the community safe.”

The system comes with an optional rapid deployment kit that allows emergency responders to activate a wireless area monitoring system in a short amount of time.

Honeywell did not give a timetable for mass commercial release.
