The Justice Department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services recently opened the application period for $25 million in grants that support law enforcement.
“The Department of Justice is investing in strategies that reduce crime, hold offenders accountable, and give law enforcement the tools they need to do their jobs,” Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward Jr. said. “These additional funding programs are another example of our commitment to safer neighborhoods, smarter strategies, and stronger partnerships across the country.”
Funding will be available through four programs.
The department will award up to $13 million through the Enhancing Crisis Response Training for Law Enforcement Program, which supports deescalation training.
The office will award up to $6 million through Community Policing Development Law Enforcement Products and Resources. The program develops and tests innovative strategies, builds knowledge about effective practices and outcomes, and supports new approaches to prevent crime and promote safe communities.
In addition, up to $4.2 million will be awarded through the Collaborative Reform Initiative, which offers a suite of services designed to highlight best practices in law enforcement agencies.
And the department will award up to $2.5 million to establish new, and support existing, accreditation bodies through the Community Policing Development Accreditation Program.
