FLIR Systems to power new thermal imaging smartphone

FLIR Systems, Inc., announced on Wednesday that it will integrate its Lepton micro camera into the new Cat S60 to create the world’s first thermal imaging smartphone.

FLIR, a leading manufacturer of ruggedized smartphones, said that the phone would be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, Spain.

FLIR touts their Lepton core as the world’s smallest lightest and lowest cost microbolometer-based thermal imaging camera. Features include the ability to see in total darkness and visualize heat that is invisible to the naked eye. The Cat S60 allows users to measure surface temperature from a distance, detect heat loss around doors and windows, and spot moisture and missing insulation, making it an ideal tool for first responders, electricians and building professionals.

“We’re excited to partner with Bullitt to create the world’s first smartphone with integrated thermal imaging,” Andy Teich, president and chief executive officer of FLIR, said. “FLIR has pioneered significant reductions in size, weight, power, and cost of thermal cameras and the Cat S60 represents yet another application for our technology and offers it to new groups of users.”

FLIR specializes in the design, manufacture and marketing of sensor systems that enhance perception and awareness.
