The Security Industry Association (SIA) recognized three members of Congress on Friday as SIA Legislators of the Year for their efforts to strengthen security matters.
The awards are presented annually to a select group of elected officials who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership in advancing legislation that encourages the effective use of technology solutions to enhance public safety and security for the nation’s infrastructure.
SIA will recognize U.S. Reps. John Ratcliffe (R-TX), Susan Brooks (R-IN) and Rick Larsen (D-WA) in a formal ceremony at the SIA Government Summit at the Rayburn Office Building on Jun. 15.
“The security industry has no finer allies on Capitol Hill than Representatives John Ratcliffe, Susan Brooks and Rick Larsen,” Jake Parker, SIA’s director of government relations, said. “The Security Industry Association will continue to serve as a resource to these members of Congress as they fight to improve cybersecurity and school safety and security for the entire nation.”
SIA recognized Ratcliffe for his efforts in advancing cybersecurity legislation, including the championship of a bill to reform the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology wing to empower the DHS EINSTEIN cybersecurity program.
The organization recognized Brooks and Larsen for their support of the School Safety Act, H.R. 2667, which would assist schools in implementing critical school safety and security measures as well as founding the School Safety Caucus.
SIA is the leading trade association for the electronic and physical security solution providers, with more than 650 member companies representing approximately 400,000 employees.
