CBP officers arrest five individuals at the Port of Nogales for narcotics smuggling

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stationed at the Port of Nogales arrested five individuals attempting to enter the U.S. with approximately two pounds of methamphetamine and heroin hidden within in their bodies on July 30.

The incident began when officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing referred a Jeep SUV and its five passengers for a secondary inspection. CBP agents, with the assistance of a narcotics-detecting canine unit, were alerted to a possible presence of drugs in the vehicle. While no drugs were found on the driver, officers discovered that a 22-year-old woman was hiding a condom filled with methamphetamine in her underwear. Two other female passengers voluntarily removed items containing methamphetamine concealed within their body cavities.

A fifth individual was medically monitored until he could safely pass a condom containing heroin two days later.

The vehicle, narcotics and all five individuals were turned over U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) officers for further processing.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border protection agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between official ports of entry.
