Germany’s Procurement Agency of the Federal Ministry of the Interior recently contracted Smiths Detection to provide baggage-screening equipment for the German Federal Police at the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport.
The HI-SCAN 10080 XCT system utilizes a high-resolution x-ray scanner, computed tomography and advanced detection algorithms to detect contemporary explosive threats. The system can also be upgraded to identify additional threats such as homemade explosive devices. The system also operates with a low false-detection rate.
“As a global company with strong roots in Germany, we are delighted that the Procurement Agency of the Federal Ministry of the Interior has shown its faith in our detection equipment,” Tony Tielen, vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Smiths Detection, said. “We take great pride in the fact that our EDS Standard 3 compliant hold baggage screening systems have been chosen to help to secure flights departing from the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport BER.”
The contract covers eight HI-SCAN 10080 XCT systems with 30 image analysis stations. Six HI-SCAN 5180si systems will also be delivered to be used as backups in different locations throughout the airport.
All equipment will be delivered and installed by the end of the year.
