New nuclear weapons summit planned for Santa Fe, New Mexico

Creative Santa Fe (CrSF), the Nuclear Threat Initiative and N Square recently released plans for a new conference to discuss nuclear security and proliferation, called the Santa Fe Nuclear Weapons Summit.

Former covert CIA operations officer Valerie Plame, actor Farshad Farat, data scientist Chris Diehl, diplomat Robert Gallucci, former U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) and physicist Geoffrey West assisted in putting the summit together.

“I am looking forward to participating in this inaugural event,” former U.S. Secretary of Defense Dr. William J. Perry said. “I can think of no better place to discuss rising nuclear dangers than in New Mexico given the state’s important history and contribution to the security of our country.”

The Santa Fe Nuclear Weapons Summit is part of a broader initiative set forth by CrSF to make the city of Santa Fe a global destination for leaders to discuss some of the world’s most challenging problems. CrSF said that it is leveraging the city’s well-developed art and culture scene, science and technology industries, and favorable climate as assets to attract people to Santa Fe.

“The thought leaders we are bringing to Santa Fe for this event include US senators, diplomats, nuclear weapons experts, authors, actors, filmmakers and artists,” Cyndi Conn, executive director of creative Santa Fe, said. “The thought leaders we are bringing to Santa Fe for this event include US Senators, diplomats, nuclear weapons experts, authors, actors, filmmakers and artists,”
