TSA approves Smiths Detection X-ray scanner for air cargo screening technology list

Smiths Detection’s dual-view X-ray cargo scanner HI-SCAN 180180-2is recently became the latest system to be accepted into the qualified section of the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) air cargo screening technology list (ACSTL).

“Dual-View technology has long been a part of our screening systems, and we continue to work with TSA to ensure our products help address evolving threats,” Dan Gelston, president of Smiths Detection, said. Smiths Detection’s close customer relationships and ability to understand their needs are essential elements to maintaining the class-leading status of our products, further confirmed by this latest inclusion on the ACSTL.”

Smiths Detection said the dual-view concept delivers improved security with faster, more accurate image evaluations. Additionally, the company said the scanner’s large tunnel dimensions allow goods on the largest TSA-approved pallet size to be screened.

The footprint of the new scanner is approximately 25 percent smaller than previous iterations.

A major change to the ACSTL last year was the requirement that new x-ray inspection equipment must offer a dual-view capability.
