The U.S. Border Patrol recently launched a new initiative called Se Busca Información, which will seek to expand on consequences against dangerous smugglers operating in the Del Rio Border Sector.
The initiative will focus on obtaining information from the public in order to locate smugglers. Del Rio Sector officials said the public may notice billboards placed at border checkpoints in the coming weeks. The billboards will depict the faces of suspected smugglers, along with a phone number to report any information. The suspects will be featured with a corresponding reference number for people to report with.
“Human smugglers have no regard for human life,” Matthew Hudak, acting chief patrol agent of the Del Rio Sector, said. “Smugglers subject immigrants to deplorable and dangerous conditions, financially exploit them, and often abandon them in the unforgiving terrain of the south Texas border. To smugglers, immigrants are nothing more than a commodity to profit from.”
Del Rio Sector officials said the billboards, along with corresponding flyers, are aimed at obtaining information anonymously. Additionally, the officials publicly urged immigrants to not trust their lives to smugglers and to not enter the country illegally.
