As President Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) provided assistance in securing for the inauguration, along with the inaugural parade.
The inauguration was notable for CBP as it was the first time all of its components, including Air and Marine Operations (AMO), U.S. Border Patrol, and the Office of Field Operations (OFO) participated in securing the event.
“It is an honor for CBP to be participating once again in the president’s inaugural parade,” said CBP Deputy Commissioner Kevin McAleenan. “I also want to recognize the commitment of our law enforcement personnel who are supporting security efforts to ensure a safe environment for everyone.”
TSA officers were assigned to assist in screening operations at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport due to the significant increase in passengers for the weekend of inaugural events. In addition, visible intermodal protection and response teams were deployed throughout the area’s airports, Amtrak stations and select Metrorail locations.
TSA also provided its intermodal virtual imaging enhancement workshop, which gives the agency a 360-degree view for use by first responders in the event of a major security incident.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry.
The Transportation Security Administration is charged with protecting U.S. transportation systems and the traveling public.
