U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station in Texas recently apprehended a known drug smuggler who was previously deported from the United States in 2007.
On Jan. 30, Border Patrol agents, along with its investigative partners, located Gustavo Tellez-Rodriguez, who was illegally living in Eagle Pass. Tellez-Rodriguez was previously deported to Mexico after he was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and served a 42-month sentence for possession of and intent to distribute bulk amounts of marijuana. He was arrested without incident after he was found to be carrying approximately two grams of cocaine.
“Border Patrol and the Joint Task Force – West have an extensive law enforcement network in place to seek out and apprehend criminals who threaten our public safety,” Matthew J. Hudak, acting patrol agent for the Del Rio Sector, said. “I applaud the hard work, collaboration, and ingenuity that went into the arrest of this criminal alien.”
The narcotics were seized by the DEA and Tellez-Rodriguez was charged with illegal re-entry after deportation. He now faces a lifetime ban from the country due to his previous conviction as an aggravated felon.
