U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) agents stationed at the International Falls Port of Entry in Minnesota recently apprehended an individual wanted as a material witness in a homicide case.
The incident occurred on April 16 as 38-year old Abraham Roberts attempted to enter Canada at the Fort Frances, Ontario, Port of Entry. After a routine name check, records revealed that Roberts was the subject of a warrant in Iowa. He was subsequently returned to the United States by Canadian authorities.
CBP agents then verified Roberts’ outstanding warrant for arrest and turned him over to the Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office from processing.
“This arrest demonstrates the continued cooperation between CBP and various state and local law enforcement agencies,” Anthony Jackson, port director for the International Falls Port of Entry, said. “The apprehension of individuals with outstanding warrants along the U.S.–Canadian border is a critical element of our border security efforts.”
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry.
