New general manager named for MITRE Corporation’s Center for National Security

William LaPlante

The MITRE Corporation recently named William LaPlante as its senior vice president and general manager of the company’s Center for National Security (CNS), which includes two federally-funded research and development centers focusing on security engineering and cybersecurity.

LaPlante will now oversee the company’s strategic value portfolios across its U.S. Department of Defense, intelligence, and cybersecurity divisions.

LaPlante previously led MITRE’s intelligence portfolio. Prior to his time at MITRE, he served as the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for acquisition, where he oversaw all research, development, and acquisition activities.

He was also responsible for both development and execution policies in support of the Air Force’s acquisition system. For his efforts, LaPlante was recognized by the Air Force Association with the W. Stuart Symington Award, which is given to individuals who made significant civilian contributions in the field of national defense.

“Bill’s demonstrated leadership ability, integrity, and drive for excellence provide huge value to MITRE and our government sponsors,” MITRE President and CEO Jason Providakes said. “With his extensive experience in the private and public sectors combined with his expertise in national defense engineering systems, I am confident he will make an immediate and significant impact in his new role.”
